Manchester City ace keen to stay at the club
Manchester City’s Nigel De Jong has dispelled speculation that he desires a move away from the club by stating that he is in a “good position over his contract” according to The Independent.
De Jong, who has been part of Holland’s disastrous campaign at the European Championships told Dutch based magazine NU Sport that he wants to remain at Eastlands.
“My contract runs for another year so I am in a pretty good position.”
He continued, “I would like to stay. I have been at the club for three years and I’m enjoying myself”.
Speculation has been rife over the midfielder’s future after negotiations over a new contract at Man City have yet to surface. However, he has given the clearest indication yet that he is content with his bit part role at the Etihad.
“It is part of the job that I sometimes sit on the bench. We have a rotation system. Ideally I would play in every game but the team comes first and we won the title, so it was all worth it.”
De Jong started only 11 games for City last season and struggled to regain his place in the team after battling an ankle injury. However, he remains impressed by the clubs transition since he joined them from Hamburg in 2009.
“I’ve seen the club develop from total chaos with the training facilities into a top club, and that’s very satisfying to see”.
